The bajra is the grand old boat of the Ganga — broad, double-decked, unhurried. On Dev Diwali night ours carries up to fifteen guests, with cushioned seating on both decks, a host on board, and snacks and hot chai doing the rounds while the ghats light up.
The upper deck rides above the river traffic, which on this night matters: an uninterrupted line of sight down the full diya-lined crescent, with the maha-aarti and the laser show framed like a stage. This is the boat for three generations travelling together, or a group that wants the night handled end to end.
